THE 60-year-old Kingston businessman charged with molesting his 12-year-old daughter was yesterday denied bail when he appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Senior Magistrate Glen Brown denied the bail application made by attorney Vincent Wellesley because of an outstanding statement from a worker employed by the accused, who reportedly witnessed one instance of the alleged molestation.

The accused was booked to return to court on March 11 by which time the court should be in possession of the outstanding statement.

RM Brown advised Wellesley that he could renew the bail application when his client returns to court.

The businessman was last week Thursday charged with several counts of incest in relation to the 12-year-old child.

Investigators said they were also probing allegations that the man had been molesting his other daughters, ages eight and 15 years.

The children were last week placed in the care of relatives by the Family Court.

The businessman, whose name is being withheld by the Observer in order to protect the children’s identity, said his 26-year-old son had coherced the 12-year-old into lying on him.

The man said his son had threatened to kill him or ensure that he is sent to jail because he refused to pay him extortion money.
