Cummings, Moodie make national CARIFTA team

Munro College’s sprinter Adam Cummings and Frome Technical High’s middle distance runners Andre Moodie are the two western newcomers named to the Jamaica team to take part in the 38th Junior CARIFTA Games to be held in St Lucia on Easter weekend.
Five western-based and one former Mt Alvernia student have been named to the 70-member team that will defend their title at the four-day event starting on Good Friday.
The team was named on Tuesday following the two-day trials that were held March 7-8 at the stadium east complex.
Former Under-17 double record breaker Dexter Lee of Herbert Morrison and the St Elizabeth Technical pair of Rochelle Farquharson and Peter-gay Reid were also named to the team.
Reid will defend the Under-17 high jump title she won last year while Farquharson was third in both the Under 17 long and triple jumps.
Lee who came second to teammate Yohan Blake in the Under-20 boys’ 100m last year, anchored the 4x100m relay team to gold.
Lee, the IAAF World Youth and Junior 100m champion did not make the final of the 100m at the Trials but was second in the 200m to Ramone McKenzie.
