McIntosh wins Last Chance Shot Putt with 16m throw

Petersfield High’s gold-seeking shot putter Cornelius McIntosh threw a lifetime best 16.08m to win at last Saturday’s Last Chance Meet in a continuing trend of improvement leading up to next month’s Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ National Championships.
Staged on the compound of the Herbert Morrison Technical High School, the meet saw McIntosh, who won the Class 1 event at the recent Milo COCAA Western Champs as well as at the Grace Kennedy STETHS Invitational, bettering Herbert Morrison’s Eric Heavens by almost three metres.
Heavens made the Champs qualifying ‘A’ standard with a best throw of 13.61m.
Another Petersfield thrower, Lorenzo Hall threw the shot put a distance of 14.24m beating his teammate Jeffrey Graham’s 13.61m.
A number of other outstanding performances characterise the meet that attracted a significant turn out among the high schools as well as a number of club athletes.
Herbert Morrison’s national junior representative Antonique Campbell, ran her first individual event of the season winning the Class 2 200m race in a hand timed 24.2 seconds.
Dickesha Kent also of Herbert Morrison was second in 25.0 seconds.
Campbell who sustained a hamstring injury at last year’s IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland had run the 400m leg on the Herbert Morrison medley Relay team at Western Champs.
Irwin High’s Marisa Daley won the Girls’ Class 3 100m with 12.4 seconds ahead of Green Island High’s Shariona Williams’ 12.7 and Herbert Morrison’s Leeona Barnes’ 12.8 seconds.
Nicolette Martin of Knockalva Technical won the Girls Class 3 200m in 26.2 seconds while Herbert Morrison’s Juel Silvera won the Class 4 event with 24.9 seconds ahead of teammate Cristal Black- 26.2 seconds and Mt Alvernia High’s Lishaun Wilson-27.5 seconds.
Green Island’s Omar Kerr won the Boys’ Class 1 100m in 10.5 seconds the best on the day while his schoolmate Odail Todd won the Class 2 race in 11.1 seconds the same time given to Herbert Morrison’s Trevaughn Marsh with another Green Island runner, Faedian Royes clocking 11.2 seconds.
Petersfield’s Dean Turner won the Class 1 200m in 21.8 seconds, ahead of Green Island’s Kemarley Brown- 21.9 seconds and Herbert Morrison’s Kemoy Graham- 22.2 seconds.
