Tufton to open Montpelier show on Easter Monday
MONTEGO BAY, St James
Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton will officially open this year’s Montpelier Livestock and Agricultural Show on Easter Monday.
Some $1 million is expected to be spent on the staging of the one-day show on the eight-hectare Montpelier grounds under the theme ‘Agriculture to the World’.
Roughly 10,000 patrons are expected to attend.
President of the St James Association of Branch Societies, Glendon Harris, told the Observer West that his association would this year continue its emphasis on youth in agriculture.
“This year we are placing great emphasis on getting the schools to participate in the show. We expect about 10 schools to attend and put their various displays on show because we really want to stimulate and get young bright minds involved in agriculture,” he said.
Harris said that the event would also have the usual high quality display of livestock, horticulture, home economics, art and crafts in addition to several educational displays.
He added that the show will also feature an impressive entertainment package which will include performances from Mackie Conscious, Peter Lloyd, Mickie Ranks and Lt Elmo.
