Some try to have sex on the beach at Hedonism – Zein Issa
SuperClubs executive Zein Issa, answering questions in the Florida e-mail lawsuit filed by her father, John Issa, said some guests at the Hedonism hotels try to have sex outside the confines of their rooms, but are told to stop if they are seen.
But Issa, the vice-president for marketing at SuperClubs, insisted the practice of people making love on the beach was not confined to Hedonism resorts.
“.Anywhere you have a resort in the Caribbean, there are people who always dream or have had visions of, you know, making love on the beach with the water.” said Issa. “I think that a lot of people might like that idea.”
She was giving her deposition in the lawsuit filed by the SuperClubs chairman in the Circuit Court of the 11th Judicial Circuit in and for Miami-Dade County, alleging that he was defamed in e-mails originating on computers in Florida, United States. The deposition was taken on June 3, 2009, a transcript of which was recently obtained by the Sunday Observer.
Representing the defendants, attorney-at-law Gail McQuilkin of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton asked Zein Issa: “Do you believe that the people that view this material (on Hedonism’s website) view Hedonism as a place that promotes open sex. sexual activity?”
Issa: “No, because we’re.”
McQuilkin: “You don’t?”
Issa: “No, because we don’t promote that. We don’t allow that.”
McQuilkin: “Did you produce a video of people having sexual intercourse on the beach?”
Issa: “No, we did not.”
McQuilkin: “Are you aware of what I’m talking about?”
Issa: “Yes.”
McQuilkin: “What was that?”
Issa: “There was an adult educational video that was produced at Hedonism by people in that business.”
McQuilkin: “And what were they producing? What were they filming?”
Issa: “I didn’t go, I haven’t seen the video, but I believe it’s similar to, you know, when you read in the back of like a.like a Glamour or Cosmo and you might see an ad, or any mainstream magazine, an ad for, you know, an.you know, adult instructional video.”
McQuilkin: “Of what?”
Issa: “How.the name of the video was keeping.something about keeping excitement in monogamous.monogamous relationships. So it was really about how to keep the fire alive in relationships. The people who were used in the video, I can’t remember if it was three or four couples, but three were long-term married couples and one was in a long-term relationship. So if you’re trying to imply that it was a pornographic film, it wasn’t.”
McQuilkin: “Were people having sexual intercourse in the film?”
Issa: “I don’t know. I never asked the details.”
McQuilkin: “Who produced it?”
Issa: “I forget the name of the company.”
McQuilkin: “What was the purpose
of it?”
(Attorney Joe DeMaria, representing Issa, objected at this point)
Issa: “It was a company that deals in.it’s one of the largest companies, if not the largest company that deals with adult educational videos and stuff. So the point was, they were producing a video to sell to people who might want to get a little.you know, know how to keep the spice alive in their monogamous relationship.”
McQuilkin: “Did they give you a copy
of it?”
Issa: “No.”
McQuilkin: “Never?”
Issa: “Never.”
McQuilkin: “Does it identify Hedonism as being the place?”
Issa: “I don’t know. It wouldn’t surprise me if it did, but I don’t know if it does.”
McQuilkin: “You have had nude weddings there, correct?”
Issa: “Yes.”
McQuilkin: “Did you attend.?”
Issa: “Yes.”
McQuilkin: “.the nude wedding?”
Issa: “Yes…”
McQuilkin: “Did you have a nude wedding?
Issa: “.along with my mother-in-law and my mother.”
McQuilkin: “Did you have a nude wedding?”
Issa: “No, I did not. It’s not for everybody, you know. Those kinds of things are a choice and it’s not something that I would choose for me, but there’s a large section of the population.section of the population that, you know, like the freedom that they get from being nude and.”
Later in the deposition, McQuilkin showed Issa several promotional photographs from the Hedonism website and asked: “Do you think someone viewing this could form an honest belief that somebody who goes there and perhaps is provided sex or goes there would be.would form a belief that that might go on?”
Issa’s attorney objected at this point.
Issa: “No, I’m going to pick up on what you said in there. You said sex would be provided. We do not provide sex. We do not sell sex, we do not rent sex, we do not provide sex.”
McQuilkin: “You charge for your hotel rooms though?”
Issa: “We don’t charge for sex.”
McQuilkin: “Do you charge for the hotel rooms?”
Issa: “We charge for the hotel room.We charge for the.and in the hotel room you get food, drink, water, sports.”
