THE Rotary Club of Mandeville has donated a 1,000-gallon water storage tank to the New Green Evon Grant Basic School in Manchester to deal with chronic water shortages there.

President of the Mandeville Rotarians McClooney Blair said the tank was one of three installed at schools in Mandeville in recent times. Others have gone to the McIntosh Primary School and also at a basic school at McKinley Road.

Principal of the New Green Evon Grant Basic School Nellie Wellington expressed gratitude to the Rotarians for the gift.

“It is great because water in Manchester is a problem, we needed the extra storage and we got a very big tank and so we are very grateful,” she said.

Wellington had even more reason to be thankful, since on the same day the Rotarians also provided lunch and treats for the children.

The school accommodates 51 students, four teachers, a cook, a national youth service worker and two parent volunteers.

“I wish more persons would help us like the Rotary Club because we need more help,” said Kerry-Ann Baker, one of the parent volunteers.
