PHILADELPHIA, USA –

At least four western Jamaica high schools will be among the over 20 Jamaican schools that will take part in the 115th staging of the Penn Relays Carnival which will start at Franklin Field, here in Philadelphia this morning.

Munro College boys, William Knibb Memorial Boys plus mixed teams form Herbert Morrison and St Elizabeth Technical will take part in the event that will run through to Saturday.

Munro College who like Herbert Morrison and William Knibb have won the ‘Small Schools’ consolation boys 4x100m title in the past, will field the biggest team and will take 13 boys.

Munro will contest the 4x100m and 4x400m relays and will have competitors in the long jump open with Dexter McKenzie and in the discus where Omar Bryan and Razzack White will participate.

Herbert Morrison’s girls’ team that was expected to create waves will be without Shavine Hodges who was reportedly having problems with her travel documents. However, coach Claude Grant said they will have adequate replacements and hope to do well.

Herbert Morrison will take a total of 15 athletes including Shadian Hemmings who will contest the girls long jump.

Boys Champs Class 1 100m champion Dexter Lee will anchor the strong boys 4x100m relay while Tevaskie Lewin and Fitzroy Harris will be included on the 4x400m team.

William Knibb Memorial should be able to make it to the finals of the boys 4x100m Championships of Americans finals but a lot will depend on Jason Young and Rajiv Service.

Peter-gay Reid, who retained her CARIFTA Games under-17 high jump title two weeks ago, will defend her high jump title at Penn this weekend and will have Rochelle Reid – the Western Champs Class 2 champion – with her.

CARIFTA Games Under-17 and Champs triple jump champion Rochelle Farquharson will contest the triple jump event.

Boys’ Champs bronze medallist Nicholas Maitland will contest the 400m hurdles as well.
