Basketball players face WBA disciplinary committee today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A number of players from Granville Jaguars and Catherine Hall All-Stars are to face the Disciplinary Committee of the Western Basketball Association (WBA) this afternoon to explain their roles in the disruption of two games late last season.
Leroy Lawrence of Granville; Goyan Malcolm, Ali Thompson and Dwain McIntosh of beaten finalists Catherine Hall All-stars will face the committee at the Montego Bay Cricket Club starting at 6:30 pm.
Lawrence was ejected from a late season game against Inner-city Avalanche at the Montego Bay Cricket Club after he struck Godfrey Rodriques in the face with an open palm, despite being dragged away from the player more than once by teammates.
The All-Stars players will answer for their part in a fracas that saw Game Two of the finals against Hoopers being called off prematurely.
Hoopers, who had won the first game, led 67-60 with 27 seconds left in the game when Malcolm and McIntosh were both ejected for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Malcolm, a candidate for Most Valuable Player of both the finals and the regular season, then approached the scoring table where he loudly vented his anger at what he thought was poor score keeping which robbed his team of a chance to win.
