KINGSTON, Jamaica –  Jamaicans Despiro Wray of Florida State University and Brandon Pottinger were winners on Friday’s second day of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Outdoors track and field championships in Louisville, Kentucky.

Wray threw a personal best 18.63m, sixth best ever at FSU, to win the men’s shot put event, first for the school since 2018, breaking his previous best 18.25m set in March.

His teammate Shamar Reid was fifth with 18.12m.

Pottinger improved on his second-place finish at the ACC indoors in March, after he equalled his personal best 2.15m to win the men’s high jump.

Shantae Foreman of Clemson was second in the women’s long jump with a wind aided 6.59m (2.1m/s), while Kimeka Smith was fourth in the women’s shot put with a lifetime best 16.91m.

Smith climbed to second all-time at Clemson after she broke her previous best of of 16.54m.

At the SEC outdoors being held at Auburn University, Jordan Turner of LSU was second in the men’s long jump with 7.91m (0.4m/s), and Shaiquan Dunn of the University of Texas was eighth in the men’s shot put with 18.34m.

At the American Conference outdoors being held at North Texas University, Jazmyn James of the University of Memphis set a new personal best 16.54m to win the women’s shot put title.

Shakiel Dacres of East Carolina was fourth in the men’s shot put with 17.34m, his lifetime best, while Fabrienne Foster of North Texas was eighth in the women’s hammer with 54.81m.

At the Big East Championships at the University of Connecticut, Juliet Smith of St John’s was third in the women’s shot put with 13.56m.
