KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mount Pleasant Football Academy qualified for Friday’s semi-finals of the CFU Club Shield after beating Weymouth Wales of Barbados 1-0 in their quarterfinal game played at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday.

Johnson Jeudi’s 66th-minute goal was the difference between the teams as the Jamaicans took a big step towards making it to Sunday’s final and qualifying for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.

Weymouth Wales, who have won 22 Barbadian Premier Division titles and last season’s beaten CFU Cup Shield finalists, had several chances to score but were wayward and allowed Mount Pleasant to sneak past them.

Jeudi pounced on a rebound after Weymouth’s goalkeeper blocked a shot and fired back into the unguarded goal from just outside the 18-yard area.

It was Mount Pleasant’s first game after they qualified for the quarter-finals after All Saints of Antigua withdrew from the competition, while Weymouth had beaten Britannia of Aruba 4-3 on PK after they had played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Mount Pleasant will now face the winner of the other quarterfinal game between Slingerz of Guyana and SV Robinhood of Suriname.
