Back in the saddle!
LUCEA, Hanover — The Supreme Court yesterday reinstated Lloyd Hill as Lucea’s mayor, reversing an earlier ousting by four members of the Hanover Parish Council.
“Come 9:30 am today I will be taking back my chair,” a jubilant Hill told the Observer West yesterday.
” The judge ruled that I should resume as mayor and chairman of the council until a hearing date is established for the matter to be heard,” he said, adding that he wasn’t surprised by the ruling.
Hill, the People’s National Party (PNP’s) councillor for the Sandy Bay division was ousted on January 14 after four councillors – two from the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and two from the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) voted in favour of a no- confidence motion moved against him.
The PNP councillors – Collville Allen, who represents the Cauldwell division and Fredecious Miller, the representative of Green Island division who ‘took over’ as mayor – have since been called up to face disciplinary action by the PNP’s top brass.
Attempts to reach Miller, a councillor of 25 years standing who had been looking forward to retiring in Hill’s post, were unsuccessful up to press time yesterday.
