Top teams march on in Open League
SEEDED teams maintained their unbeaten run and registered convincing victories in the JNBS/JNA Open League netball competition at the Leila Robinson Courts at the weekend.
Afternoon showers caused most matches to start late, which resulted in the games being cut from 40 to 20 minutes, thus affecting the margin of victories.
Defending champions JAMALCO made it six in a row when they defeated Hampshire “B”, 39-4, after leading 18-2 at half-time. The Winston Nevers-coached JAMALCO played with Marsha Murphy and Naudia Brown as the shooters.
Many-time champions Waulgrovians “A”, coached by Patrick Brissett, also registered their sixth win from as many starts by beating Flames United, 36-10, after leading 20-4 at the interval.
Christine Salmon and Naudia Hanson started as the shooters before Simone Forbes took the court in the second half.
Tivoli “A” romped to a runaway win over Correction Services through the shooting of Cleopatra Grant and Jodi-Ann Ffrench. Oberon Pitterson marshalled the defence.
Another unbeaten team, WINDALCO, also guided by Nevers, got a walkover result against Maverly “B” for their fifth win from five games.
Hampshire “A”, scoring through shooters Tara Wilson and Vanessa Jones, beat Police “C” 24-9 to remain unbeaten after leading 11-4 at half-time.
Police “A” also maintained their winning streak with a 23-18 win over OMEGA “B” after trailing 10-11 at the break. It was the cops’ fifth win from five outings.
