FALMOUTH, Trelawny – THE Trelawny Parish Council (TPC) this week implemented a paid parking system in Falmouth to address its traffic woes and raise revenue.

“The new parking arrangements will greatly assist in regulating the flow of traffic in Falmouth as well as eliminating traffic congestion in and around the town,” said Falmouth mayor, Colin Gager, who chairs the TPC.

He added that the new system will also assist in generating much needed revenues to the coffers of the council.

According to Gager, who is also the mayor of Falmouth, over the next two weeks the council will stage a series of meetings with the business community, as well Falmouth residents to engage their input on the new parking system.

Among the roads listed for paid parking are, Lower Parade Street, Georges Street, Market Street, Water Square (town centre of Falmouth),Trelawny Street, Cornwall Street, Seaboard Street, Officers Alley and King Street.

The new paid parking system will be in effect from Monday to Saturday, while Sundays and public holidays will be free to motorists.

Motorists who are parked in these designated paid parking locations will be asked to pay $50 per hour between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
