Thanks for my wheelchair!
MONTEGO BAY, St James –Thirty-two-year-old Deon Smith, the former footballer and taxi-cab driver, is thanking the many readers who responded to his plea last week for a wheelchair.
” I am extremely grateful because it is what I am using right now. I also give thanks to the flood of responses I have gotten since last week,” Smith told the Observer West.
Over a dozen readers offered to give Smith a wheelchair following the publication of his need in last week’s Observer West.
However, Tank-Weld Metals employee, Douglas Kirton, came to the offices of the Observer’s Western Bureau and offered to take it to Smith’s home in the gritty Rose Heights community.
Smith, who is the father of a six-year-old son, was crippled six years ago by thugs who shot him in the throat after refusing to pay their fares on his taxi.
