True worship
JOHN 4:24: “God is Spirit, and His worshippers must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.” In the context of this verse Jesus was speaking to a Samaritan woman. The Samaritans were regarded as an underclass by the religious Jews of that day. However, her encounter with Jesus caused her to be regarded as the first evangelist for Christ, in spite of her previous tainted reputation.
This lady had no building or theological training; she just had a
life-changing encounter with Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. She became a true worshipper, evidenced by her changed lifestyle. True worship is a powerful witness to others. Worship is not something we do when we get together with other saints in a building, but something we live! Worship is the love of God clearly seen in us.
There is no exclusive style of worship. Worship may be influenced more by our cultural background than by our theology. It engages emotion and intellect, heart and mind. Jesus said there are only two requirements for true worship: “Spirit and Truth”. When we come in contact with the presence of God that melts our hearts, exposes and tears down intellectual and mental barriers, we will be converted and made free to worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
Eternal Father, we are so grateful that You are an “all-inclusive” God. You are still saying, “Whosoever will may come.” Draw us near as a nation to You so that we may experience Your love and total acceptance. Father we know that all it takes is a genuine encounter with You for us to have a life-changing experience and become true worshippers.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
