Venezuelan ambassador commends nationals at UWI
VENEZUELAN ambassador to Jamaica, Noel Martinez Ochoa has commended Venezuelan students at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, for applying themselves to their studies at the institution and representing their country well.
Ambassador Ochoa, Professor E Nigel Harris, vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies, and Annette Insanally, co-ordinator for the Latin American Caribbean Centre, UWI met with Venezuelan students at UWI, Mona, last week.
Over the past two years, Venezuelan professionals in mechanical and chemical engineering, journalism, administration, law and political science from Petroleos de Venezuela, SA and the Venezuelan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum have received training in English Language at the Mona and Cave Hill campuses of the UWI.
Between 2008 and 2009, the Latin American Caribbean Centre completed the training of 100 professionals. Each group was hosted for a period of three months at the Mona campus and western Jamaica campus in Montego Bay. Another 100 were trained at the Cave Hill campus.
