Digicel Deal or No Deal — excitement, intrigue, stupidity
DIGICEL Deal or No Deal is clearly the place to be on a Wednesday night, the excitement, the intrigue, the stupidity.
I thank the Sunday Observer for noticing that since the start of the season I have given away over $3 million. Not a small sum to most, but there are still a few weeks left in the competition and I still have that infamous lump sum of $3million available for the taking. I am still waiting for a smart Jamaican to take it. Our last contestant, Sherene Duncan, won only $15,000, but she also got a plasma TV from ATL worth over $100,000 — not a bad start, at least she can watch herself lose.
I have fallen in love with Digicel Deal or No Deal. The show has grown so much in the few months that I have been at the helm. Jamaica might not know it, but I too am from humble beginnings and it pleases me superbly when someone wins a bit of money.
I take my hat off to Richard Dean, father of Ananda Dean, who was the first person to win over $100,000 on the show. Jacqueline Dehaney also won big with $189,500 followed by Lamair Josephs who won a whopping $330,000. I also give credit to Christopher Martin who won over $400,000 for the Shaggy Foundation in aid of the Busatamante Hospital for Children. There were also other big winners including Kadian Francis with $275,000 and another banker himself, Jermaine Lindsay who won $475,000 on the Valentine’s episode.
There is no other show on Jamaican television where Jamaicans from all walks of life can win so much money in the space of one hour. At the end of it all, I am happy that some deserving Jamaicans have won some good money. I hope that they can turn these winnings into millions, as I have done.
