Memorial service for Syd Bartlett next Tuesday
THE memorial service for legendary Jamaica footballer Syd Bartlett will be held next Tuesday, March 22, at Holy Rosary Church, Windward Road, East Kingston.
The service, which will begin at 3:00 pm, will be presided over by Catholic priest Ken Richards.
Former Jamaica footballers who either played alongside Bartlett, or who were inspired by him, are expected to attend the service. Already, several Jamaicans based overseas have confirmed their attendance.
The service will feature tributes from persons close to Bartlett, inside and outside of Jamaica.
Bartlett died December 19 last year at a New York hospital, following kidney failure. He was 70. He was buried in New Jersey.
A fearsome forward, Bartlett represented the YMCA team of the 1950s and 1960s and was a member of Jamaica squad that participated in the first World Cup qualifiers in 1965.
He was also a member of the first Caribbean All Stars squad that toured England in 1958.
The Syd Bartlett league, contested by third division teams in the Corporate Area, is named after him.
