Significant drop in traffic fatalities
There is a significant drop in fatal crashes and fatalities since the start of the year over the corresponding period last year.
According to the Road Safety Unit (RSU) in the Transport Ministry, 67 people have been killed in 63 fatal crashes since January. These figures show a remarkable drop from the 95 killed in 2009 in 85 crashes over the same period.
And as the National Road Safety Council implores cyclists to wear protective helmets, the RSU has revealed that there is also a marked reduction in deaths in that category of road users.
Ten motorcyclists and three pedal cyclists have been killed since January.
RSU data, however, reveal that last year 21 cyclists were killed over the same period.
Pedestrians, with 30 killed since January, top the groupings of road users.
At the same time, 11 private motor vehicle drivers and seven passengers in private motor vehicles have been killed in traffic crashes.
