Singing Jewels take gold!
MONTEGO BAY, ST JAMES– The Cornaldi Primary School topped Sunday’s finals of the JCDC Children’s Gospel song competition with a scintilating cover of Crystal Lewis'”Lord I believe In You”, by a four-member group of students who have dubbed themselves the ‘Singing Jewels’.
Rhonae Lemonias, 8, Alethia Campbell, 8, Anique Morris, 9 and Danielle Thomas, 9, marched into Sunday’s finals at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, bolstered by a sensational performance at last month’s semi-finals at the Eastwood Park New Testament Church in Kingston.
Sunday’s finals saw the Singing Jewels taking the gold medal over the Bright Beginnings Preparatory school from Kingston.
“The whole school community is so excited and overwhelmed. We are elated and very proud of the four girls,”
said Teacher Janet Grey who prepared the group along with teachers John Hamilton Odette and Campbell Morris.
She noted that it was the first time that the school, which normally enters the JCDC festivals, tried their luck in the gospel section. But she said she wasn’t at all surprised at Sunday’s outcome.
“I was not really nervous because we have gifted singers and they take instructions that they are given,” Grey said.
“Danielle is from a singing family and she has been in the studios so she knows a lot about music; the rest are from spiritual families and they know about singing,” she added, noting that the only challenges were financial as the girls were required to rehearse in Kingston thrice.
