Campion golf event tees off April 24
LOCAL golfers will get the opportunity to cash in on a raft of prizes, including a Chevrolet Avalanche, by participating in Campion College’s 50th Anniversary golf tournament scheduled for Saturday, April 24 at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club.
The event, which is presented in association with PanCaribbean and sanctioned by the Jamaica Golf Association (JGA), has a two-ball better ball full handicap format and is expected to feature 48 men, ladies and mixed teams.
“PanCaribbean is pleased to be associated with the event, largely because it is in aid of improving education,” said Donovan Perkins, president & CEO of Pan Caribbean Financial Services Limited.
“Campion College has a strong history of high performance, which our company can identify with, so we had no reservations to sponsor the event,” he added.
One lucky golfer could drive home the Hole-in-One prize of a brand new Chevrolet Avalanche, compliments of Challenger Transport, while the best overall iIndividual player will win a ticket on American Airlines to any US, Canada, Mexico or Caribbean destination.
Flow is also offering a special prize of a HD PVR box and one month free HD services in a match up between top male golfer of the year Jonathan Newnham (a Campion third form student), and the rest of the field for the closest to the hole on hole No 3.
Other team and individual prizes include weekends at SuperClubs, Jakes and Sandals resorts; gourmet dining at Courtleigh Hotel, Strawberry Hill, Spanish Court Hotel, Hilton Kingston and Cannonball Cafe; rounds of golf at Half Moon, Sandals Upton and Caymanas; and many other special gifts from Appleton, Chukka Caribbean, Island Art, LIME, Gym Liguanea, Lascelles, JL Golf, System Integrators, WB Trophies, Intcomex, Jablum, Innovative Systems, Ramsons and Associated Manufacturers.
“The support for the tournament has been outstanding,” said tournament chairperson Jodi Munn-Barrow, herself a Campionite and the top female golfer of the year.
“Thanks to PanCaribbean and a host of generous sponsors, we are looking forward to an exciting event and encourage golfers to come out in support of education.”

The Golf Tournament is a major fundraiser for the school’s development plan, the Vision 2020 Campaign, which has as its priority the construction of Jamaica’s first library media centre to be named the Jonathan Stewart Library in honour of the late son of alumnus, the Hon Gordon “Butch” Stewart, OJ.
Stewart will provide a challenge grant of US$350,000 if the school raises US$700,000 by December 31, 2010.
To date, the Campaign has secured over U$260,000 in donations and pledges from both local donors and donations from overseas through its partnership with Food for the Poor Inc.
