No light on police barracks fire
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The acting superintendent of the St James division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Dolphin Doeman disclosed yesterday that investigators were sure what caused last Saturday’s fire at the barracks at Montego Bay’s Barnett Street police station on Good Friday.
” Our investigators have carried out a probe into the matter, however the findings were inconclusive and we are unable to say specifically as to what caused the outbreak,” Doeman told the Observer West.
The fire department were also unable to determine the value of the loss caused by the devastation of the structure.
” We are still gathering information to determine what were the things in the area as to determine a reasonable cost of the losses,” the fire chief further noted.
Thirty-three firefighters from the Freeport and Ironshore fire stations worked for over an hour using seven fire units to extinguish the blaze which started at about 8:00 am, Friday.
No one was hurt, but police lost their uniforms and personal belongings.
The barracks used to accommodate 30 members of the Island’s Special Constabulary Force (ISCF).
