Wailers, Strikers meet for Portland Major League title
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Uptown Wailers and Eagle Strikers will meet in today’s final of the Portland FA Western Union Major league final at Lynch Park starting at 6:30 pm.
Both teams have done well in the competition so far and are deserving finalists. For their part, Eagle Strikers have been consistent throughout the competition, while Uptown Wailers started with a bang, but had to struggle toward the end to get to the semi-final stage.
Uptown Wailers have within their ranks a number of former mfore St Georges SC including Ryan Willis, Peter John Bender, Luke Fagan, Brenton Lopez, Marvin Fagan and custodian Sheldon Howell.
Eagle Strikers, meantime, have won the competition before and will be looking to Kevin Douglas, Dwayne Waits, Rodge Afflick, Kamar Campbell and Ricardo Bradford to take them to the title.
Eagle Strikers’ Afflick and Campbell have scored eleven and seven goals, respectively, while Willis (seven) and Lopez (five) are the top marksman for Uptown Wailers.
In today’s decisive showdown, Eagle Strikers will have a psychological advantage as they defeated Uptown Wailers 2-1 when they met earlier in the season.
In the curtain-raiser, a Western Union eleven will play a Portland Executive eleven at 4:00 pm.
