Luckless P’More held goalless by August Town
Portmore United just couldn’t catch a break and were forced to share honours with visitors August Town, as their Digicel Premier League encounter ended 0-0 at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
The former champions had three clear opportunities to score but failed to do so each time to the obvious dismay and frustration of coach Neville Bell.
“I actually thought we played well. I really don’t think we had a bad game,” he told the Observer. “We made mistakes, we had the chances, we should have won the game, but this is football.”
Both teams would have done well with a victory, having missed the cut of the top six of the league with four games remaining in the round.
August Town, who were playing under the direction of new coach, former Reggae Boy Onandi Lowe, got their best shot at going ahead midway the second half when a right-sided corner went zipping past the edge of the post.
Portmore found themselves one player short for the last five minutes of the first half after Mario Harrison took a hit to the face and had to receive medical attention for a profusely bleeding nose until the end of the half.
August Town seemed to be stalling for time close to the end, making several substitutions with mere minutes remaining and assistant coach Dwight Morgan said the team was not over-joyed but at least satisfied with the result.
“We wanted to come here and win, but we saw where Portmore also wanted to win. We got some chances to win, they got some chances, we got a point and we have to be grateful for it. It’s not enough, but we have to just accept it,” he said.
Meanwhile, in another game at Brancourt, the match-up between Sporting Central Academy and Arnett Gardens was called off with the scores locked at 0-0 after 58 minutes due to a water-logged field.
