For this week’s career walk, TEENage focuses on a group that is geared at restoring order; we will be looking on becoming a soldier. Persons that enjoy helping people and performing heoic acts, this could be a possible career to consider.

Today we will be looking at the Job Title:

Soldier

This week it will be a little different in that we will be doing a two in one segment. We will be focusing on the two different types of soldiers that one can become. One can be a private soldier or an officer in the army.

A private is one that protects the sovereignty of a country from internal and external threats. They work alongside the police officers to preserve law and order in the society. They also assist in emergency and rescue operations.

On the other hand an officer in the army is one that performs specialised services in the military as lawyers, doctors or pilots. They also supervise soldiers of lower ranks.

For one to become a private soldier it is required that they have passes in English language and mathematics. Persons interested in becoming a private soldier is also required to have a high school diploma. On the job training is also offered.

An officer is of higher rank than a private and as such, more requirements are needed. To become an officer, one must have passes in the English language, mathematics, history, physics, business and information technology. It is also required that a person interested in this career type must have a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelors in Social Science, in various disciplines as well as on the job training.

For one to excel at being a private soldier one must be able to work under pressure and make important decisions. One must possess good interpersonal and human relation skills. One must also be willing to work flexible and odd hours. There is moderate and extensive on the job training. The job is physically challenging and work is unpleasant and environment can be hazardous.

When considering becoming an officer, it is important to be able to work under pressure. One should have excellent oral and written communication skills, and possess good interpersonal and human relation skills. This job requires much dedication and one must be willing to work flexible and odd hours. There is moderate and extensive on the job training offered. One must possess excellent organisational skills and pay attention to details as well as have strong analytical skills and possess effective management and leadership skills.
