JPS should draw brakes
Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
The Jamaica Public Service Company wants another increase in light and power and this is not going down well with the nation.
While JPS is seeking an increase, many workers have not had a pay hike in a long while. Prime Minister, I know it is hard on you at this time, but please instruct your minister who has full responsibility for the company to do something for Jamaicans, by letting JPS draw brakes now and let the people survive in comfort in their own country.
The nation has just gone through civil unrest that rocked sections of the country. It is time for the people to pick up the pieces and move on to help the government rebuild the country.
Although the previous government signed a contract with the light and power company for an increase every year, the JPS must realise that they have the people of Jamaica in their hands.
I am a churchgoer and it pains my heart to see how the church keeps silent over matters like this.
Recently the church and other interest groups come out strongly against the PM over the Manatt, Phelps and Phillips issue, but now not a word is being said.
So, PM, I am suggesting that your government should sign a new contract with the company to let them, like the civil servants, receive an increase when we are not in a recession and both the people and JPS can receive an increase. May God bless and keep Jamaica, land we love.
