Waterhouse capture KSAFA U-20 title
GOALS from Alvin Nelson, Darren Mattocks and Ashani Walker carried Waterhouse FC to a 3-1 win over Harbour View in the final of the KSAFA Under-20 Champions League at the UWI Bowl yesterday.
Nelson gave the Marcel Gayle-coached side the lead after 14 minutes, but Jeremie Lynch cancelled his effort eight minutes after the break.
Harbour View went down to 10 men in the 67th when Damion Lowe was given a second yellow card. And Waterhouse took advantage, with Mattocks netting in the 79th and then Walker five minute from time.
Waterhouse’s two losses this season came at the hands of Tivoli and Harbour View, the two teams they beat in the semi-final and final, respectively, enroute to the title.
Waterhouse coach Gayle believed it was a testament of the players’ improvement throughout the season.
“This is a true reflection of the guys’ team work. We started out on a bad patch but… came together and mended the problems and we just moved forward…,” he said.
The match started on a equal footing until Nelson separated the teams with a wonder strike for Waterhouse. However, Harbour put their opponents on the defensive, but wasted a number of chances.
They eventually found the equaliser after the break when Lynch beat goalkeeper Robert Johnson with a most spectacular free-kick that gave the Waterhouse custodian no chance.
But the game took sudden twist soon after, when Lowe committed his second bookable offence and was ejected.
Waterhouse pushed their opponents back and eventually broke their resistance when Walker set-up Mattocks to scored from five yards.
Walker then grab Waterhouse’s third minutes later after Ricardo Samuels out-ran the Harbour View defense before passing to the unmarked Walker at the back-post, who slammed the ball into the roof of the net from close-range.
