Harris wins; Ross, McIntosh make entry
NUMBER three seed in the Boys 18, hard-working Daniel Harris, polished off Keith Bennett, 6-0, 6-1, as the PanCaribbean All Jamaica Tennis Championships served off yesterday at the Eric Bell Centre and Senior Common, University of the West Indies.
Harris will meet unseeded Jared Wright, who earned a walkover from David Fletcher.
The top seeds in the Boys 18, Joseph Ross and Sheldon McIntosh respectively, will bow into action today against Stefan Wilson and Saaid Pitt, who made short work of Bryan Fenton, 6-3, 6-1.
Top seed Ross will play Wilson on court one at 8:30 am at the Eric Bell Centre.
Fourth seed Ramone Doyley took apart Andrew Mason, 6-0, 6-1; sixth seed Michael Jones outplayed Romario Jarrett, 6-2, 6-1; seventh seed Horatio Ludford outpointed Andrew Knight, 6-2, 6-1; and eighth seed Jared Morgan overpowered Jared Gordon-Martin, 6-4, 6-0.
Second seed McIntosh will take on Pitt on court three, after Doyley meets Quincy Lester at 8:30 am.
In the Boys 16, with all seeded players getting byes to the second round, Jovaughn Mullings ensured that he booked his place overpowering Richard Azan, 6-1, 6-4, and Dylan Levy outfought Richard Blake, 7-5, 6-4.
Levy, who also competed in the Boys 14, defeated Justin Mesquita, 4-1, 4-1, and Matthew Robinson blanked James Robertson, 4-0, 4-0.
Only one match was played in the Boys 12, with Christian Dear breezing past Alrique Welsh, 4-0, 4-0.
Meanwhile in the Girls 16, Florida-based Nia Rose, seeded number four, warmed up for her campaign brushing aside Shaenn Kameka 6-1, 6-0 while Girls 14 second seed Shaeda Nickle made light of Oneka Shaw, 6-0, 6-0.
In the Girls 10, number two seed Iesha Sterling rushed into the semi-final with a 4-0, 4-0 win over Thanique Taylor and will play Krisanne White who secured her place without hitting a ball with a bye and no-show from the number three seed Iyana Scarlett.
