Festival song finalists for Sumfest Beach Party
The 10 finalists in the 2010 CLARO Jamaica Festival Song Competition will be performing at the Reggae Sumfest Beach Party scheduled for today at the Cornwall Beach in Montego Bay. They join Brown Suga, Errol Lee and the Bare Essentials and Bumpa on the line up for the event scheduled to kick off at 10 am.
According to festival song co-ordinator, David Reid, the partnership between the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and the promoters of Sumfest is indicative of the overall strategy being undertaken by the JCDC in promoting local culture and Jamaica Festival 2010.
Reid also pointed out that since the final road show on Saturday, July 3 the finalists have made appearances on the Little Ochi Seafood Festival and on the CLARO lunch hour concert held in Half Way Tree yesterday.
The finalists are also scheduled to perform at another lunch hour concert also organised by CLARO in Spanish Town on July 29 and the BOJ Lunch Hour Concert ahead of the grand finals on July 30.
The 2010 winner will take home a one million dollar prize package courtesy of CLARO and a brand new 2010 Nissan Tiida courtesy of Fidelity Motors Ltd. Other sponsors involved include Real Vibes Party Wine, Excelsior, Ting, Capital and Credit Merchant Bank, the CHASE fund and the KSAC.
The Festival Song Competition is being hosted under the theme, True Jamaican Patriot, and is poised to restore and revitalise a sense of patriotism and nationalism across the island. The winning song is also set to be used as the musical theme for the national independence celebrations scheduled to kick off later this year.
