Buckfield Sgt offered bail
DETECTIVE Sergeant Lloyd Kelly — the cop charged with Ian ‘Ching Sing’ Lloyd’s murder — was offered bail in the sum of $1 million in the Home Circuit Court a short while ago.Related story:DPP rules murder
Justice Courtney Daye offered bail despite strong opposition from prosecutors, who argued that the crime was too serious, and suggested that the cop may tamper with witnesses.
Daye didn’t share the Crown’s view, however, neither did he see Kelly as a flight risk, he said.
Kelly is to report to the Ocho Rios Police Station on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. A stop order has been placed on him at all ports.
He is being defended by attorney Oswest Senior-Smith.
The case is to be mentioned again on Sept 17.
Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn ruled yesterday that Kelly should be charged with Lloyd’s murder, following an incident in Buckfield, St Ann on July 29.
The police said a post-mortem examination conducted on Lloyd last week revealed multiple injuries and the presence of two gunshot wounds — one a non-fatal wound to the left forearm and the other a fatal wound to the left side of the abdomen.
