Sharp-shooter McCreath leads Scotia past Courts
FOUR Goals by Nicholas McCreath helped Scotiabank Group defeat Courts Jamaica 5-3 which earned them a spot in the semi-finals of the 2010 Scotiabank Group Kingston & St Andrew Business House Football Knockout competition on Saturday at the NWC playfield, Mona.
McCreath was on target in the 10th, 39th, 87th and 89th minutes, while Courts’ Ricardo Lescene scored an own goal in the 15th minute. Scotiabank Group led 3-1 at half-time, but rallying goals from Jermaine Oakley (33rd), Omari Dennis (68th) and Anthony Burke (82nd) brought Courts level in an exciting match. In other quarter-final matches, Jamaica National Building Society defeated National Housing Trust 3-1 at Jessie Ripoll Primary School. Kimari Williams (35th), Jair Minott (47th) and Lauren Riley (66th) scored for JNBS, while Ian Edmonson (20th) got the consolation for NHT.
The biggest upset of the day saw Division Two contenders Wray and Nephew stopping Division One favourites Gleaner Company 3-2 in a close game. Gleaner Company, who have seven members of KSAFA Super League outfit Cavalier, went into the match over confident.
Glem Simms (21th), and Caetaneo Rainford (24) gave Wray & Nephew a 2-0 half-time lead. Kenrick Picknight scored a brace in the (61st and 79th) for Gleaner, but this was not enough as Ricardo Robinson goal in the 81st minute made the difference.
In the final match of the third round, which was postponed from last Tuesday, runaway Division Two leaders Wisynco Group upset Division One’s National Water Commission 4-2 on penalty kicks after both teams played to an exciting 3-3 full and extra-time draw at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Rillins Francis got a brace for NWC in the 22nd & 42nd minutes, while Decham McDaniel got the other goal. Robert Robinson (32nd), Anthony Blackwood (53rd) and Calbert Coke (90th) scored for Wisynco Group.
Wisynco Group will now play defending champions Carib Cement in the quarter-finals today at Bull Pen, starting at 3:00 pm.
The semi-finals will see JNBS playing Wray and Nephew and Scotibank Group meeting the winner of the Carib Cement/Wisynco game on Saturday.
