Trial delayed for accused pants-stealing teacher
THE trial of a teacher accused of stealing three pairs of dress pants from an uptown store in St Andrew was yesterday rescheduled for October 6 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The accused will be tried for simple larceny.
The trial was set for July 29 but was postponed when it came up before the court, resulting in a new date being scheduled.
The allegations against the teacher are that on April 23, she went to the store in Constant Spring, Kingston 8, and took up five pairs of pants off the clothes racks.
The teacher, who was reportedly being watched by a security officer, then went into the changing room and after about 10 minutes emerged with only two pants, which she replaced on the clothes racks.
She reportedly exited the store and was accosted by a security guard who searched her handbag a found three pairs of pants, valued at US$131.
The matter was reported at the Constant Spring Police Station and the accused was arrested and charged.
But the teacher refuted the allegations. She said she went to the store and took up the pants, but walked out of the store with the clothes to retrieve her purse from her car in the parking lot.
