The Cloth by Robert Young
Trinidadian designer Robert Young, who is widely known within the region for his “unique, dynamic and original interpretation of the Caribbean aesthetic” presented his collection, The Cloth, on the final night of Caribbean Fashion Week. As expected, The Cloth stayed true to Young’s description with a modish take on Afrocentric outfits accessorised with oversized messenger bags. In a brief address to patrons, Young explained that he decided to use his collection as an inspiration by “making the invisible visible… because private actions can cause public change”. In addition to the ‘wow’ factor, he also had the sombre-faced models walk in a zigzag pattern down the runway to the soothing sounds of nature. AW brings you a few highlights from Robert Young’s The Cloth.

The Cloth could be described as a print-driven collection as there were several interesting ensembles, such as this sheath dress which the designer cleverly reinterpreted.
