St James bag STETHS Cup
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — St James High School won the second staging of the STETHS Cup pre-season football competition amassing 13 points from two games played in the tournament at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.
St James High, who beat Bridgeport High 4-2 on Saturday and hosts STETHS 4-1 on Sunday, finished with 13 points well clear of Bridgeport (six), defending champions STETHS (five) and Garvey Maceo (one).
The scoring system for the two-day event awards points to each team for each goal scored as well as the standard three points per win and one for a draw.
In other games, STETHS edged Garvey Maceo 1-0 on Saturday, while Bridgeport edged Garvey Maceo 2-1 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, St James High players also topped the individual awards section by taking three awards — Allan Ottey for Most Valuable Player, Alwayne Barrett the Top Midfielder and Jason Malcolm and Cion Peterkin were joint Top Goalscorers with three a piecee.
Garvey Maceo Shamal Briscoe won the award for Top Goalkeeper, Bridgeport’s Tyshan Rainford was named Top Defender and Derah Vaccianna of Steths won for Top Forward.
