Digicel Jus Buss makes TEEN millionaire
DIGICEL Jamaica is arguably the most popular mobile network among youths across the island, and perhaps just became even more popular as it made two youths millionaires through their summer ‘Jus Buss’ promotion.
Both Darrion Mitchell and Georgina Venson can boast that their talk time was well worth it as they were hugely reimbursed.
Every time 19-year-old Darrion Mitchell added credit to his phone, he paid no attention to the messages that told him he was being entered in the Digicel ‘Jus Buss’ summer promotion. Little did he know that when the promotion ended, his name would have made it as the ultimate winner of five million dollars.
Many will remember Mitchell from being a part of the 2009 CARIFTA 4×100 team that won gold at that year’s games. Now attending the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Mitchell is currently on a track and field scholarship and says that being a millionaire has not distracted him at all.
With the new school year beckoning, the second-year management studies student is fully focused on completing his first degree and keeping his grade point average at a standard that ensures the safety of his scholarship.
When asked how he plans to spend the money, Mitchell laughed before saying, “Most of the money is going towards investment. Family and friends, car and definitely my master’s degree.” Until then, Mitchell is intent on leading normal life as he had been doing before he was named the winner.
Georgina Venson, who also attends the UWI is currently pursuing her Bachelors of Science in marketing.
Venson was relieved to hear that she was also a winner in the promotion. Although she ‘only’ won a million dollars, Venson is elated to know that Digicel has provided a tremendous boost in her financing her education.
Before attending UWI, 24-year-old Venson worked as an accountant to finance her education and was not shy in saying that “the post-paid conversations paid off”. Now Venson can focus on her education without having to worry about the costs.
The Digicel ‘Jus Buss’ promotion began on July 2 and ended on August 26.
