TWO male protesters — radio announcer Bobby Fray and attorney Richard Bonner — camped outside the gates of the all girls’ Queen’s School in St Andrew this morning, protesting the appointment of the new principal.Related story:Queen’s School quarrel

With signs reading “Evil Triumphs”, Fray and Bonner stood in the area from as early as 3:00 am.

They said the principal hadn’t been appointed based on merit, but because of her religion.

Fray is a Queen’s Prep alumni, while Bonner has a child at the school.

The men said that they wanted the Government to review the appointment.

Queen’s, an Anglican church-run St Andrew school, made the news in May after some board members resigned over a decision by the school to pass up the acting principal for the post of head teacher in favour of the current principal, who is a member of the denomination.

The acting principal, who had been at the school for more than 10 years as vice-principal, was said to be the board’s choice for the position, but that was shot down by the Anglican Diocese which wanted to offer the job to an Anglican.

Queen’s is a denominational school and, as such, the board is accountable to the Anglican Diocese.

Meanwhile, at the Maisie Green Early Childhood Development Centre in Grants Pen, parents stood outside the gates asking for their children, after reports that the principal had fired two teachers, and was running the school with just one.

The principal, who locked herself inside the school with the students, refused to talk to the press.

The parents said the school had been short of teachers since yesterday, the first day of the school year.
