MONTEGO BAY, St James — Investigators are questioning a suspect they apprehended since last week, in connection with last year’s murder of Thomas and Marjoke Chambers.

The suspect is expected to face an identification parade later this week.

Fishermen along the seaside in Flamingo Beach, Trelawny found the bodies of the couple in an advanced state of decomposition — face down and hands bound — three weeks after they disappeared.

At the time the police said a brown handbag containing cosmetics and an invoice book bearing the name M Chambers were found near the bodies.

Thomas, 63, and his 61-year-old wife left their Spot Valley home, located in a hilly section of St James, less than 12 miles from the resort city of Montego Bay for an undisclosed location in June of last year.

Thomas was a former president of the St James Cricket Association who sponsored a number of community football leagues in the parish.

A real estate developer and a farmer, he unsuccessfully contested the Salt Spring division in 2007 local government elections, on People’s National Party (PNP’s) ticket.

His wife was a former national hockey player in Holland.

She also taught Physical Education, locally and coached a few hockey teams.
