Gunman injured, crony arrested in St Ann shootout
CLAREMONT, St Ann — Police in St Ann last night shot and seriously wounded an alleged gunman and arrested his crony during a reported shootout at Orange Park, Claremont, in the parish.
The injured man is in hospital under police guard while his crony is in lock-up at the Claremont Police Station.
Police have not yet released the details of the incident, but it occurred about 10:00 pm, after the two men reportedly held the robot taxi man at gunpoint and robbed him of his motor vehicle.
The taxi man reported to the police that about 9:30, the two men boarded his taxi in St Ann’s Bay for Lime Hall. While the vehicle was travelling along the Lime Hall Main Road, the men reportedly held him at gunpoint and ordered him to stop the vehicle.
The driver was told to run from the vehicle and he complied. The men then sped off in the car.
A report was made to the police and the car was later spotted in the Orange Park area. Police said the vehicle sped off when the driver was signalled to stop and a chase ensued.
The men reportedly stopped the car and ran into bushes allegedly firing at the police.
The police said they returned the fire and during a search of the area one of the men was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The other man was arrested as he tried to escape.
