Former Wolmer’s Boys’ athlete Dale Dunn has been admitted to a Baltimore hospital after he was shot and injured during a robbery attempt on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Academic All-American student was reportedly shot a block from Coppin State University where he is a star cross country runner on a full scholarship.

Reports are that the shooting took place about 10:15 pm (EST) as he returned to his off-campus apartment and was on the phone to his mother, who resides here in Jamaica.

Reports carried in the Baltimore media are that Dunn managed to make his way home but was then rushed to the hospital where he was admitted in critical but stable condition.

The reports also quoted University officials as saying Dunn, a senior, is on a full scholarship to the school and maintains a 4.0 (out of 4.0)

grade point average and is majoring in management science.

“He’s the type of person who doesn’t start any kind of trouble. He stays to himself and tries to get along with everyone as much as possible,” said teammate Shawn Johnson in an online article.

“To know that something like this happened to him just caught everybody by surprise. Everyone’s shocked and still in disbelief.

“He’s what you would describe as the perfect student. He goes to bed early, he does all his work. His work speaks for himself,” Johnson continued.

Another teammate Danillio Absalom told the Observer that last year he was held up at gun point not far from where Dunn was attacked.

Dunn was supposed to compete at a MEAC cross country championship at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore campus this weekend.
