FOOD for the Poor, in their commitment to the overall development of children across Jamaica, last Wednesday officially handed over a newly constructed double unit dining facility to Denham Town Primary School.

Ryan Peralto, CEO, said he hopes this new facility will bring peace of mind to the staff and students of the school.

“Our passion at the Food for the Poor is to make sure that we provide some kind of peace and dignity to those who are facing difficult circumstances,” Peralto said. “We know that the community is going through a hard time, so when the request came up for us to support this initiative, we at the Food for the Poor did not hesitate.

Acting principal of the school, Venus Scott-Harrison, said this donation from the non-profit organisation will greatly help the school.

“We are very grateful for Food for the Poor’s contribution to our school. Not only will this facility provide a clean area for the children to eat, but it will aid the students in practising basic etiquette and social graces,” the elated principal told Career & Education.

Before the dining facility was erected, the students of Denham Town Primary stood and ate outside their classes on the corridors.

The new facility boasts a double unit with dining furniture, a kitchen unit and verandah. Food for the Poor also supplied and installed grill work, electrical wiring, fittings, piping fixtures and did external and internal painting.

The project cost the agency US $8,000.

The tiling was donated by Marriann Williams-Stewart, a teacher at the school.

Food for the Poor responded after guidance counsellor Mahalia Edwards approached them for help.

The school has a population of 800 students.
