DJ Jerry is Green Synergy champ
Amidst a hail of confetti, DJ Jerry was announced as the winner of the 2010 season of Heineken Green Synergy inside the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston on Saturday.
The diminutive DJ from the Cassia Park community in the Corporate Area, staved off the impressive turntable skills of Mandeville’s DJ 47 to take the title and prizes.
It was a stunned Jerry who, with hands on head, steeped forward when he was announced at the winner by celebrated DJ Grand Master Flash, who was a special guest on the competition’s televised reality show. With words failing him at that moment, DJ Jerry exhaled, “I did it, I did it for Cassia Park,” when asked for his immediate reactions by host Tami Chynn.
Second place winner DJ 47 noted that he was pleased with his performance throughout the competition adding, “I still feel like a winner.”
Speaking to The Observer shortly after, DJ Jerry still seemed shell-shocked, but composed himself and thanked the Jamaican public for casting votes for him, noting that although he was constantly seen as the underdog in the competition, the public clearly saw something in him.
The indoor sports centre was transformed into one massive nightclub complete with dancefloor and effective lighting which created the perfect ambience for a the party which followed the announcement.
