It’s a brave person who pours cold water over one of the most powerful men in Hollywood.

But luckily for Conan O’Brien, Tom Hanks is also one of the nicest superstars, and didn’t seem to mind getting a soaking during a taping of the host’s new late night show.

The pair delighted the audience with a ‘whale-watching’ skit, which ended in the actor getting engulfed in a massive wave.

Sitting in front of a Pacific Ocean backdrop, Hanks commented: “I lived in the San Francisco Bay area and you always had the sense that you could see water.”

Gazing at the screen, the host then pointed out two whales, exclaiming, “Check out the whales, those whales are breaching!”

Playing along with the stunt he knew was coming, the Forrest Gump star started to lecture O’Brien on the marine mammals’ activities.

He was cut off when an enormous whale appeared right in front of them and a massive wave engulfed the screen.

Tom was then drenched by a downpour of water from above. He looked around in feigned shock as the audience roared their approval, before exclaiming, “That was amazing!”
