Edwin Allen reclaim high school girls’ 4x100m title at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, United States—Edwin Allen High ran the third fastest time ever, 44.13 seconds, to retain their high school girls’ Championships of Americas 4x100m title on Friday’s second day of the 130th Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, United States.
In a dominant display, Edwin Allen dismissed an early challenge from Maryland’s Bullis School, Alexxe Henry taking over the lead on the second leg to win comfortably, taking their 11th title overall.
It was also their ninth title in the last 11 stagings of the Carnival, with Hydel High winning the other two.
Only two other Edwin Allen teams have run faster, the 2019 team that set the meet record of 43.62 seconds and the 2017 team that had also set a record of 43.96 seconds.
St Jago High finished second in a smart 45.08 seconds, followed by Pennsauken of New Jersey- 45.30 seconds.
Excelsior High was next with 45.6, followed by first-time finalists Mt Alvernia High with 45.94 seconds.
St Augustine’s of the Bahamas, the only non-Jamaican team in the field, won the International final in 45.90 seconds.
Alpha Academy were next with 46.42 seconds, with Holmwood Technical ( 46.74 seconds), St Mary High (46.77 seconds), William Knibb High (47.11 seconds), Vere Technical (47.33 seconds), Penwood High (47.45 seconds), Meadowbrook High (48.07 seconds) and Manchester High with 48.19 seconds.
