Security guard shot in the face, seeks compensation
Dear Claudienne
On July 17, 2007, my son who was working with Atlas Security Company as a security guard was shot in his face while on duty at a hotel construction site in Hanover. He worked with the company for about one year. The company insured the workers with Guardian Life and deductions were made from his pay for the insurance.
I spoke to a manager at the head office of Atlas sometime ago and she promised to get back to me re the insurance compensation. However, up to now I have not heard a thing.
Could you please check with them for me.
DM
Dear DM
We spoke with Atlas. We subsequently learned that they had requested a report from the Hanover police some months ago but did not get it. On Thursday Tell Claudienne spoke to the Lucea police who explained that nowhere in the report they got from the Courts office about the shooting was your son’s name mentioned. The police said they needed verification that your son was the person who was shot.
We note that they have received the verification. The police have advised us that Atlas can collect the report by 10 am tomorrow (Monday November 15) at the Lucea police station.
An Atlas spokesman told us that as soon as they receive the report it will be forwarded to Allied Insurance brokers for them to initiate the process of having Guardian prepare the cheque.
We will follow this up.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
In respect of the non-issuance of my son’s birth certificate, I am most dissatisfied with the service that is being offered by the Registrar General’s Department.
My son was born at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) on June 9, 2010, and was registered on June 10, 2010. On Sep tember 16, after allowing for the advertised three months for the issuance of the first free copy, I called the RGD to check on when I would receive his birth certificate.
We are now approaching the end of October and after numerous calls and e-maills, I am being told today (October 26) that the certificate has still not been printed. There are several urgent processes that are awaiting the issuance of this certificate — most important his passport application.
Given that I had a good experience when I registered my daughter two years ago under the usual system, I can only surmise that the promise of a first free birth certificate has greatly overwhelmed the RGD’s system. I have been advised that switching over to the regular system will only further delay the process and so I am forced to continue along this seemingly endless and futile route.
I am therefore asking if you could assist me with getting the RGD to print and send the first copy of my son’s birth certificate so that I can get on with other urgent business.

Dear DS
Tell Claudienne faxed your e-mail to the office of the CEO of the RGD and also contacted a government department which monitors the RGD.
We note that you have been notified by the RGD that the birth certificate has been sent to the Courier service for delivery by latest tomorrow (Monday November 15).
Good luck.
