Western teams in tame 1-1 draws
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Western Jamaica teams Reno FC and Village United remained close to the relegation zone in the Digicel Premier League after both scored 1-1 home draws in Sunday’s fourth set of games in the second round.
Reno earned a point from second-placed Waterhouse (28 points) at Frome, while Village came back from a goal to get a point from leaders Tivoli Gardens (30 points) at Jarrett Park, extending their unbeaten run at the Montego Bay venue.
Both are winless since the start of the second round with Reno in ninth position on 17 points, two points and a place higher than Village.
In both games, the goals came in the final 20 minutes of the game as the teams battled for supremacy and the full points.
At Frome, the home team took the lead in the 70th minute when midfielder Fabian Blake scored from about 22 yards from a rebound from goalkeeper Kelso Cousins who had blocked a shot from Rondell Morris.
Substitute Peter Keys, who entered the field less than a minute before in the 75th replacing Jermaine Anderson, grabbed the equaliser after he was sent through by a header from a teammate and beat goalkeeper Dennis Taylor.
In Montego Bay, the home team came from behind to keep their unbeaten streak intact.
Jermaine Taylor, who replaced Michael Blygen in the 64th minute, gave Tivoli the lead in the 75th minute, but Cordel Simpson equalised three minutes later.
Taylor latched onto a long pass over the top of the Village midfielders and then lobbed the advancing Keith Hamilton in the Village goal.
Tivoli were forced to change goalkeepers when Edsel Scott complained of blurred vision after being struck by a shot. His replacement Leon Gordon then gave up a corner kick that Simpson converted.
