Portmore stop Black Lion to advance in LIME KO
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — The quarter-final line-up for the LIME/St Catherine Knock-out football competition has been decided with holders Portmore United remaining on course to lift their sixth crown.
The former four-time Premier League winners booked their quarter-final spot with a 3-1 victory over Major League leaders Black Lion at Irish Pen.
Tremaine Stewart in the 44th minute and Steven Morrissey in the 77th were on target for Portmore with the other being an own-goal. Seymour Mullings replied for Black Lion, who were losing for the first time in six outings in all competitions.
Meanwhile, the giant-killing act continued as Major League strugglers Albion FC rallied from a goal down to oust last season’s Super League finalists Newlands FC 4-1 at the Albion Oval.
Dwayne Thomas shot the Portmore-based Newlands into a 16th-minute lead, but David Samuels brought Albion back into the contest four minutes later before Dwayne Agustus, Steve Williams and Ricardo Hartley completed the turn-around.
In other games, Tru-Juice clipped Dela Vega City 1-0 behind a second-half Steve Dunkley goal, while Derron Darmond struck in the 61st minute to give Portsmouth a similar victory over Rodwood.
Meantime, the Major League and Division One competitions return on today with respective round six and round four matches.
In the Major League, leaders Black Lion look to rebound when they play away to Rodwood at Waterford High, Cumberland host DB Basovak, while Dunbeholden and Royal Lakes meet at Dunbeholden.
In Division One action, Fraziers Whip travel to Green Acres Oval for a date with Pen Acres, while Christian Pen and Invaders square off at Christian Pen.
Matches begin at 3:00 pm.
