Cocktails With – Ingrid Emmons
LIME Vice-President — Human Resources, Ingrid Emmons (nee Messado), is a regionalist at heart; she’s into our music, art and culture. Chilling at Hope Gardens for the Stewart Motors presentation of the 2011 Mini Country Man and the BMW X3, she’s the quirky-sexy-cool kind of woman who would make any event all the more interesting.
What are you sipping?
Red wine. My favourite red wine Hob Nob.
What kind of day are you having?
A good one, busy but that’s good, right?
Socialite or homebody?
An absolute mix, it depends on my day. I just moved back in August and so I’m enjoying both; I love it.
You were living in the States, why did you decide to move back?
I want to give back to my people, invest in them and I couldn’t do that while I was away. And the depth of the talent pool is amazing; Jamaicans are hungry, ambitious and bright. They challenge me and I wanted to so much be a part of that.
Jeans or LBD?
Jeans, with a tank top, funky-chunky necklace, high heels, and I’m ready to go.
Flats or stilettos?
Stilettos, no flats.
What’s your style?
My style is urban-chic, but I love local designers. I love local designers like Alia Michelle (Orane).
I love her stuff.
What’s in your clutch?
My invitation, my keys, my BlackBerry and lipgloss.
Who does your hair?
Roxanne’s off East Kings House Road.
Who does your nails?
Same place.
Where’s the best place to find you?
I’m always at work, at LIME. I’m always on a plane within the region; I travel two weeks to a month on business trips.
What perfume are you spraying?
I like body oils. I wear Body Butter by Jencare.
What’s your idea of the perfect date?
An intimate, unusual getaway, like Hellshire at night, nothing ‘flossy’ with everything authentically Jamaican. My favourite food is pan chicken from Red Hills Road… I’ll take that over lobster any day.
What’s your idea of the perfect man?
A man who spends less time on himself than I do on mine; I don’t like ‘pretty boys’. He must be of high intellect, high on adoration, and low-maintenance. He must work as much as I do or else it’ll be a problem.
What’s your latest obsession?
Anything turquoise… jewellery!
What’s in your car stereo?
Michael Franks.
What’s it like as the VP of Human Resources at LIME?
Fabulous, but at the same time amazingly challenging. I’m just thankful for the opportunity.
What projects are you working on?
LIMElight, a regional reward and recognition programme. I have this obsession with finding undiscovered artists. For me, life is about making art out of everyday life.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Never compromise!
And 10 years from now?
I see myself giving regional artists a platform to go global. To me it’s just about exposing the rest of the world to the talent we have in Jamaica. There’s so much for the world to learn about how we’ve been living for generations.
