St Thomas, Cornwall take age-group titles
ST Thomas Technical and Cornwall College emerge winners of the Rural Area Under-16 and Under-14 titles after victories over Glenmuir and Munro, respectively, at Brook’s Park on Tuesday.
Marvin Powell’s 70th-minute goal carried underdogs St Thomas Technical to a 1-0 win over defending champions Munro in the Under-16 decider for the biggest football prize in the school’s history.
Meanwhile, Cornwall twice came from behind to draw 2-2 after regulation and extra-time, before beating Glenmuir 4-3 in the ensuing penalty shootout.
In a close and exciting game, St Thomas Technical, led by the skillful Rodaine Jennings, scored 10 minutes from time to give the Ramnay Thompson-coached boys their first title.
St Thomas will now meet Corporate Area champions Excelsior High in the All-Island final tomorrow at Dinthill Technical in Linstead.
Ricardo Bennett opened the scoring for Glenmuir in the U-14 finale, but Zachary Headley equalised for Cornwall before the half-time break.
Bennett put Glenmuir back in front after the interval, but Tajay Kelly netted a late goal in the second half to send the game into extra time.
Headley, Kelly, Peter-Lee Vassell and Alrick Ottey converted their spot kicks for Cornwall, while Kevon Lambert, Ryan Brown and Jevaughn Ennis scored from the spot for Glenmuir.
