Village find breather with win over BT
VILLAGE United defeated Boys’ Town 1-0 in their Digicel Premier League match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday and distanced themselves from the relegation zone.
Dino Williams broke free of the Boys’ Town backline, then saw his shot blocked by the legs of goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie, but the rebound fell nicely to him and he made no mistake the second time of asking.
Village, with just their fourth win from 17 matches, stayed in 10th spot with 18 points, and importantly, are five clear of the drop zone.
Winning coach, Brazilian Nedeir Dos Santos, said this was a crucial win as his team plans to climb from the danger zone.
“It was really hard but what I found here in Jamaica is there is not much between the top and bottom teams” said Dos Santos.
“We had the better chances and we deserved to win and it is a very good step to start climbing the table,” he added.
For Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price, it was a disappointing result for his makeshift team.
Said Price: “We had to suspend some people for disciplinary reasons and I expected the persons brought in… would have done the job, but they didn’t step up to the plate.”
It was a cruel blow for the title-chasing Boys’ Town who were slumping to their second defeat in three matches to remain on 27 points.
