Dear Editor,

I obviously can’t claim to have known the late veteran journalist, Mr John Maxwell, outside of following his writings over many years. However, I feel certain that he would have been ashamed of the kind of gutter journalism as practised by the Sunday Herald newspaper.

Many other newspapers elsewhere in the world endorse political parties but they don’t hide it from the public. This is important because the public has a right to know from what position the paper is writing.

The Sunday Herald pretends to be objective, but it will never have any credibility or moral authority if it cannot state in its pages who are the owners and directors. The Gleaner and your own newspaper carry this information daily.

It is patently unfair for the Herald to target political opponents of the PNP, while pretending that it is a normal newspaper. If the owners are in hiding, could it be because the paper was found to owe millions of dollars in taxes? By the way, have the arrears in taxes been cleared? The PNP can’t be expected to come back to power without insisting that all its affiliates pay their taxes.
